Classic Chronicle visits New York City in this 1992 segment, with three different takes on the city, from fishing in the East River to Broadway and Central Park

NEW YORK —

New York City offers something different for every visitor, and this Classic Chronicle segment from 1992 follows three hosts as they each make a personal pick for exploring Manhattan. Host narration highlights everything from sidewalk vendors and busy streets to the city’s energy, while the segment contrasts early-morning fishing, Broadway entertainment and a quiet stroll through Central Park.

Charter boat captain Joe Shasta challenges assumptions about fishing in New York Harbor, telling Classic Chronicle, “A lot of people wouldn’t believe it’s possible. I mean, yeah, the perception of the harbor is not very good. But as you can see, this is year-round.” Later, client Larry Geller adds, “People don’t believe that catch fish around here, but if you’re going out with Joe, you can see that you can catch fish out here and have a lot of fun.”
