In this 1992 Classic Chronicle segment, three hosts make the case for their favorite ways to experience New York City, from outdoor adventures and sports to Broadway, museums and dining
NEW YORK —
New York City becomes a friendly competition in this Classic Chronicle segment from 1992, as three hosts each argue for their own perfect Manhattan itinerary. Through good-natured banter, the episode highlights everything from fishing at sunrise and Ivy League football practice to Broadway, museums and some of the city’s newest attractions.
Classic Chronicle follows charter captain Joe Shasta on the East River, where he says, “A lot of people wouldn’t believe it’s possible. I mean, yeah, the perception of the harbor is not very good. But as you can see, this is year-round.” The segment also visits Columbia University’s football practice, where a coach explains the team uses players on both offense and defense “out of necessity,” and tours Manhattan’s first driving range, where owner Greg Cohen says plans are in place to keep golfers hitting through the winter.
