Kelly Clarkson went shopping in Brooklyn and came away empty-handed and annoyed.
The singer and talk show host said on X on Saturday that an employee at Art of Play sized her up and assumed she couldn’t pay for what she wanted.
“Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me,” Clarkson, 44, wrote. The brutal post follows Clarkson comparing herself to Taylor Swift earlier this year.

She didn’t hold back in the next comment, which was seemingly aimed at the employee.
“Wow, dude,” she wrote. “You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.” Clarkson, who won the first season of American Idol in 2002, signed off with a bit of advice for her 8.8 million followers.
“But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out.”

Anyone who has seen Pretty Woman knew exactly what the actress meant.
In the 1990 film, Roberts plays Vivian Ward, an escort who falls for a rich businessman played by Richard Gere.
Snooty clerks on Rodeo Drive refuse to help her because of the way she’s dressed. Later, she walks back in wearing a stylish outfit and carrying bags from other stores, asks one of the saleswomen whether she works on commission, and tells her, “Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
Clarkson’s fans had plenty to say in the comment section of the post.
“As you were leaving, we hope you told him who you were,” one wrote.
Another posted, “Wow! Imagine not knowing THE Kelly Clarkson.”
“Glad he didn’t waste your time. Unfortunately for him, he’s about to have a lot of free time,” a third added.
Some took it a step further and left one-star reviews on the store’s Google page. “y’all mean to Kelly Clarkson? heck no,” one said.
On its website, Art of Play says it carries a “unique collection of magical home goods, puzzles, games, toys and books” and notes it has been called “one of the most beautiful shops in New York City.” The Brooklyn space also has an “intimate 26-seat theatre” that “hosts performances from the best close-up magicians in the world.”
The store also seemingly fired back at Clarkson with a thinly-veiled response. Taking to their Instagram page, the store shared a review from another customer praising the a staff member’s “genuine act of kindness.”
The review read, “From the very first time I walked into @artofplay, I felt welcomed and treated with such genuine kindness.
“I love discovering unique treasures and connecting with the wonderful people there.
“[Art of Play is] a place that leaves you smiling and wanting to come back. I’m already counting down the days until I return in two weeks.”
Art of Play reportedly later deleted the story according to US Weekly.
