WASHINGTON — Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home was raided early Monday morning by the Department of Homeland Security as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into the Somalia-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork.

Agents wearing Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) jackets arrived outside Omar’s Washington, DC, home to execute a search warrant and were later observed removing belongings early Monday on the quiet residential street.

The Post saw agents carrying boxes out of the residence to government vehicles, one of which was white and marked with a pink “X,” as the congresswoman’s neighbors looked on in disbelief.

The more-than-half-a-million-dollar bungalow appears to have gotten a significant facelift since it was sold in 2018 and now sports a bright door on a street where Omar’s neighbors sport “Free Palestine” and other like-minded signage.

The raid was the result of a years-long criminal investigation involving whistleblowers and related to alleged false statements made on Omar’s immigration papers, according to sources familiar with the case.

“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a DOJ spokesperson said, noting the action was part of “an ongoing federal investigation.”

“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar said in a statement on X later. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

“I will not be silenced,” the congresswoman vowed.

Neighbors said Omar, 44, and her family had lived there for at least the past three years.

One described hearing “loud banging” on the representative’s door at around 4 or 5 a.m., followed by “a man screaming, ‘Open the door, open the door.”

The unidentified neighbor said they didn’t know if Omar was at home at the time of the raid, and that agents had been going in and out of the property all morning.

They were “very good neighbors,” one resident told The Post, describing as “totally ridiculous” the early-morning raid.

A source told The Post that authorities are “investigating [Omar’s] immigration history, which includes her family’s history, as part of the probe.”

Officials are expected to attempt to revoke her US citizenship if it was obtained through concealment of a material fact or willful misrepresentation.

Authorities are looking into whether Omar used a different name in Somalia, and whether her family immigrated legally, which could impact her own status inside the US.

It comes just weeks after Border Czar Tom Homan revealed that Omar was under an ongoing “criminal” investigation.

Omar has long been dogged by allegations that she married her brother in order to help him secure a US visa or student loans — though sources indicated that Monday’s raid didn’t appear to be tied to those accusations.

Omar and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen, were married in 2009. They divorced in 2017.

The progressive Democrat has also been accused of entering the US in 1995 under a false name or secondary family identity to bypass refugee processing backlogs.

Meanwhile, the controversial lawmaker has faced questions about alleged tax discrepancies, after a 2019 Minnesota state campaign finance board found that she filed joint tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her children, in 2014 and 2015 — while she was still legally married to her first husband.

Omar has consistently denied that Elmi is her brother, branding the claims as baseless bigotry.

She said she entered into a religious marriage with Hirsi in 2002, but they later separated and she legally married Elmi in 2009.

The congresswoman said she and Elmi separated two years later, in 2011, before she reconciled with Hirsi.

She and Hirsi were legally divorced in October 2019, around two years after her divorce from Elmi in 2017.

In March 2020, Omar announced that she had married Tim Mynett, a political consultant who had done work for her campaign.

Mynett’s subsequent venture capital and wine businesses ended up inflating the couple’s net worth by tens of millions of dollars in recent years — though Omar has since blamed accounting errors for the discrepancy.

The search on Omar’s residence more likely came as a result of inconsistencies or inaccurate statements that Omar’s father, Nur Omar Mohamed, may have made for his daughter when applying for citizenship, sources say.

Mohamed served as an officer in the Somali National Army before dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was toppled, prompting him to depart with his family for the US.

The future congresswoman is the youngest of seven children Mohamed and his wife had while in Mogadishu, Somalia, before they were granted asylum and emigrated to Arlington, Va., in 1995.

Two years later, the family moved to Minneapolis where Omar would attend high school. She eventually became a US citizen at age 17 in 2000.

The Minnesota Democrat’s dad died of complications due to COVID-19 at the age of 67 in June 2020. Mohamed worked in the state as a postal employee and cab driver, as his daughter’s star rose in state and later federal politics.

In May, Vice President JD Vance announced that the DOJ, alongside federal immigration authorities, was reviewing potential instances of immigration fraud and family financial disclosures.

This followed an April amendment to Omar’s federal financial disclosures that adjusted reported asset values.

The HSI is the main investigative arm of Homeland Security, with a scope that includes investigating cross-border crime and global threats, including human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, drug smuggling, and cybercrime.

No formal criminal charges or court filings have been brought against Omar to date, while her legal counsel and spokespeople maintain that her naturalization process and financial disclosures fully comply with federal law.

Omar’s spokesperson and other Democrats accused the Trump administration after the raid of weaponizing the federal government into targeting the president’s political enemies.

“For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,” spokesperson Jacklyn Rogers said in a statement. “The congresswoman has done nothing wrong.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) in a statement said Trump’s “violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family.”

“DHS raiding a member of congress’s home is exactly what a fascist police state does,” added fellow “Squad” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) in an X post.
