A man who allegedly drove while under the influence and caused a four-vehicle crash that killed a woman and involved a Manhattan Beach police SUV was arrested on suspicion of murder and other charges on Monday, Oct. 12, authorities said.
The crash occurred just before 10:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Manhattan Beach and Aviation boulevards, police said.
The officer involved witnessed the vehicle, allegedly driven by 35-year-old Antolin Titus, hit another vehicle, which caused both to veer into the officer’s SUV and a fourth vehicle, Manhattan Beach police said.
Danielle Antich, 24, of Hermosa Beach died at the scene, while an unknown number of others, including the officer and the suspect, were injured and taken to hospitals, police said. Antich was a passenger in one of the vehicles hit by Titus.
The officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Video from RMG News, a freelance news organization that sometimes works with this publication, shows the damaged vehicles in the eastbound lanes of Manhattan Beach Boulevard before the intersection and in front of a McDonald’s restaurant. The crash involved a Tesla SUV, a Toyota Corolla, a pickup truck and the officer’s SUV, with a large debris field covering lanes and a raised median.
It was not known which vehicle Titus was driving.
Titus was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, hit-and-run causing death or serious injury, reckless driving, possession of nitrous oxide and being an unlicensed driver, police said.
Titus, a Whittier resident according to public records, was being held on a bail of more than $2 million, inmate records show.
