Richard Linton is expected to be named the next president of Virginia Tech, multiple sources told The Manhattan Mercury Tuesday afternoon.

Linton is currently the president at K-State, having served in that role since 2022. He’s the 15th president in university history.

He did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Neither Virginia Tech nor K-State have announced anything, but the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has a special public meeting slated for Wednesday at noon central time in Blacksburg for a formal vote to appoint the new president. Meanwhile the Kansas Board of Regents has called a special closed-door meeting at 12:15 Wednesday on a “non-elected personnel” matter. The Regents hire and fire university presidents.

Linton has bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Virginia Tech.

Linton succeeded Richard Myers as president of K-State. Myers was president from 2016 to 2022.
