STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Just a week after declaring a resounding victory, more than 50,000 candidates applied to work under Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
“The sheer number of applicants speaks to the excitement at the heart of this movement — one that has inspired people to believe that government can put working people first,” Mamdani said in a written statement. “This was a movement built by and for New Yorkers – and our administration will reflect that.”
The team manning the transition between Mayor Eric Adams and Mamdani opened a jobs portal shortly after his win to collect resumes of those interested in joining Mamdani’s mission to create an affordable New York.
The jobs, according to the statement, will vary in seniority and specialty.
“We’re building an administration defined by excellence and a commitment to delivering on Zohran Mamdani’s affordability agenda,” said Elana Leopold, executive director of the transition. “50,000 applicants are proving that they’re ready to help carry out this work across all levels of government. And these applicants make this movement, and this incoming administration, that much stronger.”
The portal, found at transition2025.com, features Mamdani’s slogan at the top of the page: “A new era for New York City.”
The jobs portal, found under the “Apply” button, offers the hopeful message, “Shape the future of our city.”
It details that the resumes themselves will be added to a database and perused by the transition team upon the need for employees in specific roles throughout New York City’s many agencies and departments.
