PERU, N.Y. (WCAX) – Crews will treat the Little Ausable River in Northern New York with lampricide on Thursday, which means people should not use the water.
The water-use advisory for the river in the town of Peru starts Oct. 15 at 5 a.m. The treatment will last for 12-14 hours.
State health officials said the water there should not be used for drinking, cooking, fishing, swimming, irrigation or watering livestock during the advisory.
The affected areas are posted with yellow signs.
Restrictions can last from 1-5 days and will be lifted when testing shows the chemical levels no longer exceed the state’s safety threshold.
The treatments are part of ongoing efforts to control sea lamprey in Lake Champlain.
