MANLIUS, N.Y. — Students in the town of Manlius will get a safer way to walk to school under a $1.1 million state investment announced Wednesday.

The money will pay for new sidewalks along Enders Road that meet federal accessibility standards, making them easier to use for people in wheelchairs, with strollers or with other mobility needs. The sidewalks will link Eagle Hill Middle School and Enders Road Elementary School.

State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced the funding at a press event in the town.

“What that’s going to do is really allow students to walk safely, making sure that they can travel between the schools, but more importantly, encouraging walking, biking access across the board, and of course, it connects down to the high school as well,” Dominguez said.
