Forest Hills now has a street sign worthy of its friendly neighborhood superhero. Council Member Lynn Schulman, Assemblyman Sam Berger, and representatives from Disney/Marvel were joined by New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, Congresswoman Grace Meng, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, New York State Senator Leroy Comrie, New York State Assemblymember Andrew Hevesi, neighbors, community leaders, and Spider-Man fans on Monday, October 12, to officially unveil Spider-Man Way at the intersection of Ingram Street and Ascan Avenue, celebrating the longtime connection between Spider-Man and Forest Hills.

From the pages of Marvel comics to the streets of Queens, Spider-Man has always been a New York story. Peter Parker’s Forest Hills roots have made the neighborhood an important part of the character’s history, and now that connection has a permanent place on the streets of the community.

“Spider-Man reminds us that you don’t have to be superhuman to make a difference,” said Council Member Lynn Schulman. “Here in Queens, we see that every day in the people who show up for their neighbors and give back to their communities. Spider-Man Way celebrates that spirit and recognizes the lasting connection between Forest Hills and one of New York’s most iconic characters. I’m proud to help make that connection a permanent part of our neighborhood.”

“For decades, Forest Hills has been home to Spider-Man, and we are thrilled to honor that legacy with a street renaming for our very own Webhead,” said Assemblyman Sam Berger.  “For millions, myself included, Spider-Man’s heroic exploits in comics, film, and video games were more than entertainment. They inspired us to dream big, stand up for others, and remember that anyone can be a hero. Even a kid from Queens.”

The new street designation was established through legislation introduced by Council Member Schulman and approved by the New York City Council, officially co-naming the intersection of Ingram Street and Ascan Avenue as Spider-Man Way. For a neighborhood that has been part of Spider-Man’s story for decades, the new sign is a fitting way to make that connection part of Forest Hills itself.

Now, Forest Hills officially has its own friendly neighborhood superhero street.
