Lawmakers are inching closer to reopening the government after 43 days.
House members will return to the Capitol Wednesday for the first time in more than 50 days for a vote to reopen the government and end the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
But, Democratic leaders in Congress have vowed to fight the package.
Meanwhile, federal workers are still in need of help. They just missed their second full paycheck.
An emergency food giveaway was underway for them in Brooklyn.
The Food Bank for New York City has teamed up with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to help workers impacted by the shutdown.
“It will help a lot because I need food,” an employee said. “I have an emergency fund, but not much.”
“I think that there’s a certain amount of shame that these workers might have that they would ever have to come to a food bank to get assistance,” Reynoso said.
It was the Food Bank for NYC’s third emergency food distribution for federal workers.
Other events were held in Queens and at JFK Airport.
