Friends,
This weekend, I’ve got a terrific collection of events lined up for you — a beer garden welcoming one of Brooklyn’s most beloved local artists, a community wine dinner to connect with neighbors, and a fun gala in the park to support the Park Slope civic council.
But before we get to all that, wanted to share a few odds and ends. First, I loved this piece in The New Yorker’s Talk of the Town this week about two guys who’ve invented a compass that only points to the Olive Garden in Times Square.
Also worth your time: this investigative piece by Ian Urbina in The New York Times examining the impact of farmed fish on the seas.
Finally, if you’re a runner heading to Philadelphia, check out this collaboration at Anna & Bel leading up to the Philadelphia Marathon. The stylish boutique hotel in Fishtown, home to Bastia, has teamed up with lululemon and The Makers Table for a six-week series of two-mile runs led by lululemon ambassadors and local community partners.
Each run starts at the hotel and ends with coffee and refreshments on the Caletta patio, plus surprise take-home goodies. The runs happen rain or shine every Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. through November 13, including the run and post-run refreshments. Participation is free, with registration available through Eventbrite. I’m thinking of a weekend trip just to join in.
Oh one more thing — a reminder that I’ll be at Liz’s Book Bar on Tuesday Oct 20th (7-8pm) teaching How to Become a Food Writer! If you’ve been hoping to start pitching or want to start your own Substack, this class is for you. Tickets are $30. Hope you can make it!
And now, your Weekend Buzz.
