Design and construction work in New York City “remains resilient, with strong momentum in transportation infrastructure, residential, office and health care sectors,” Collins says. “There is a notable shift toward renovation and state-of-good-repair projects. Few sectors have truly cooled.”
Collins explains that “while residential permitting has slowed from 2024 highs, overall spending remains strong, fueled by [building] conversions and renovations.”
Delivery models and technology will drive more innovation, the executive points out. Progressive design-build and public-private partnership approaches “are gaining favor for complex projects,” he says. “AI and predictive analytics are being deployed for resilience planning, community and stakeholder engagement and environmental reviews.”
In addition, Collins says, “We expect continued emphasis on digital tools, permitting reform and workforce development to accelerate timelines and meet the city’s infrastructure goals.”
