The Greek Cultural Center will expand their original film programming with a new annual festival, which plans to showcase Greek, Greek American, and international films. The Hell Gate Film Society Shorts Showcase will take place October 17, 2026, at the Greek Cultural Center at 26-80 30th Street in Astoria (close to Newtown Avenue).
“We’re incredibly excited about this batch of films from Greece, Cyprus, Iran, Brazil, Spain and Germany—as well as a few American films peppered in there. We had many incredible submissions, and found some of the best international short films making the festival circuit this year. We focused on stories of immigrant experience, relationship to homeland and self-definition. I can’t wait to share these films with an audience,” says festival curator, Jack Dryden.
Hosted at the Greek Cultural Center, and featuring a panel of experienced filmmakers and top Greek American cinematic voices, the festival aims to create a welcoming space where filmmakers and audiences can gather to celebrate the wonderful art of short films. In its first iteration, the festival will take place over the course of one day, October 17th, and will feature two blocks about 70 minutes long.
