STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island Little League president Chris Bruno announced earlier this year that the entire 2026 season is dedicated to late Staff Sergeant and war hero Michael H. Ollis.
And that includes fall ball as well.
Each baseball and softball player who competes in SILL fall ball this season proudly displays Staff Sgt. Ollis’ name on the back of their jerseys.

The Dongan Hills loop, which is Staten Island’s oldest Little League (Est. 1953), also acknowledged the former New Dorp resident during the spring and All-Star seasons.
In the spring, Staff Sgt. Ollis’ parents, Robert and Linda, threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day before receiving a plaque in their son’s honor.

In addition, the five teams who competed in All-Star play over the summer boasted the Ollis crest on their uniforms.
“We will continue to honor Staff Sergeant Michael H. Ollis here at Staten Island Little League,’’ said Bruno. ”Each spring season, we will have a team in our league named in his honor to keep his legacy alive in our community.”
