The Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced its 2026–2027 season, which includes a new musical, operas, and dance performances. In the musical category is the world premiere of The Grand Delusion from Tony winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King) and Academy Award-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal (Frida).

The Grand Delusion will run May 11–June 6, 2027. Billed as an “erotic musical fantasy,” the new work combines dance, immersive design, puppetry, and music to tell a love story that is set across contemporary New York City, India, and a magical, mythical plane, The Grand Delusion. The work is produced by special arrangement with Chunsoo Shin (The Great Gatsby) and OD Company.

The Fellow Travelers opera will also play BAM in 2027, from April 23–25. The opera from Gregory Spears and Greg Pierce is based on the novel by Thomas Mallon about two gay men working for the American government during the Lavender Scare of the 1950s. The 10th anniversary production of the opera is led by director Kevin Newbury and producer Jecca Barry.

Other performances in BAM’s 2026–2027 season include dance works by Urban Bush Women, Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble, Tanztheater Wuppertal performing Pina Bausch, Big Dance Theatre, DanceAfrica 50, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
