“Today, Manhattan stood united to unanimously declare that ICE has no place in our neighborhoods, to condemn ICE’s heinous shooting of an immigrant New Yorker, and to demand that ICE immediately release Oscar Belgal,” said borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal.

On Oct. 8, the NYPD released body-worn camera footage showing the aftermath of the shooting.

The video shows a man wearing a reflective vest and carrying a long gun standing near Belgal, who is seated on the ground with his hands restrained.

Belgal was shot while his 5-year-old son was in the back seat of the car, according to city officials. The shooting sparked protests, including a rally in Lower Manhattan, where demonstrators called for an end to ICE operations in New York City.
