New York State Police responded to the Essex County Government Building Thursday after the Board of Elections reported receiving a suspicious envelope.

Police said they received the report at around 11 a.m. They later determined that the letter was a mail-in ballot, and there was no threat.

The state police Critical Incident Response Team secured and examined the envelope, and determined it was not threat. It was identified as a mailed-in ballot.

We now know that letters were also sent to the offices of New York senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said the suspicious letters were also sent to some of the state’s offices.

The incident remains under investigation. So far, no one has been harmed in these incidents. It is still unclear who sent them.
