When John Legend and Chrissy Teigen went looking for new Manhattan digs several years ago, they settled on a well-appointed penthouse occupying the top floor at the landmarked Brewster Carriage House, an 1850s carriage factory building transformed into a six-story condominium in the Nolita neighborhood. They acquired an adjacent penthouse two years later.

The EGOT-winning musician and supermodel paid $9.02 million for the first penthouse in 2018 and $7.7 million for the second one in 2020, for a total of $16.72 million. The couple planned to combine the two units into one duplex megapad, giving them a roughly 6,100-square-foot home across the entire sixth floor and half of the fifth floor.

Legend and Teigen never followed through with the combination. Due to work commitments, they were spending most of their time in Los Angeles and couldn’t justify the monumental time and energy required for a major construction project in New York. They sold the penthouses together as a package deal in 2022, complete with the expansion plans.

After listing the penthouses for $18 million, they ultimately traded for $16.75 million. The anonymous buyer used the Central Perk LLC and Regina Phalange LLC to pay for the units—nods to the famous coffee shop and alter ego of Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) from the sitcom Friends.

The current owner has since updated the residences in collaboration with interior designer Augusta Hoffman, keeping them separate. The condos are now back on the market for a combined $22.5 million. Kane Manera of Corcoran holds the listing, with the opportunity to purchase the residences known as Penthouse South and Penthouse North individually for $12.5 million and $10 million, respectively.

Penthouse South on the sixth floor holds three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Roughly 2,600 square feet is anchored by a great room featuring 12-foot ceilings and sculptural travertine details. A southeastern exposure blankets the home with light, while an 1,800-square-foot private terrace sits above.

The larger Penthouse North, meanwhile, spans roughly 3,500 square feet and accommodates three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a pair of powder rooms across the fifth and sixth floors. The structure’s industrial heritage is apparent throughout, showcased by original Corinthian cast-iron columns, high beamed ceilings, and steel-framed windows set against exposed brick walls. Multiple entertaining spaces include a great room and a lower-level media lounge, which lead up to a 1,500-square-foot rooftop oasis, bringing the combined outdoor space to 3,300 square feet.

The monthly common charge is $5,211 for the combined $22.5 million layout, or $2,419 for Penthouse South and $2,792 for the Penthouse North duplex if purchased separately.
