NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — On this episode of “Tiempo,” we’ll be on the campus of Hostos Community College in the Bronx to celebrate the contributions of Latinos in the New York metropolitan area.
Early Latino history dates back centuries to 1613, when notable figure Juan Rodriguez arrived in New York City from Santo Domingo.
Ever since then, Latinos have taken this city—and the surrounding metropolitan area—by storm.
In modern times, Cubans settled in New Jersey’s Hudson County. Neighborhoods like El Barrio and Loisaida in Lower Manhattan became the centers of Puerto Rican culture.
Dominicans established strong communities in Washington Heights and Inwood.
Later, Latinos from Mexico, Central and South America reshaped neighborhoods across the five boroughs and beyond.
On this episode, we’ll spotlight Latino scholars, leaders, community activists, entrepreneurs, and entertainers.
They are “Tiempo Trailblazers and Unsung Heroes.”
