MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) — A man was killed in a shooting at a Midtown Manhattan subway station Saturday, and police are continuing to search for the gunman, authorities said.

The shooting happened on the northbound E train platform at the Seventh Avenue-53rd Street station. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Darrel Rodriguez from the Bronx, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and later died, police said.

Sources told Eyewitness News that Rodriguez and the suspect had been arguing on the platform before the shooting.

Police released surveillance images of the suspect and said the shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. Saturday inside the station. Investigators said the suspect approached the victim before pulling out a gun and shooting him in the chest.

Rodriguez’s neighbors in the Bronx say the 26-year-old victim was a twin — he worked as a security guard, while his brother was a Marine in Texas. Neighbors would call him Anthony, his middle name, so there would be less confusion with his twin, Derrick.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

Addressing the investigation, police said, “The dispute spilled onto the train and then back onto the platform. We are still actively investigating whether shots fired on the platform or on the train. I want to be clear, this was not a random act. Our detectives are the best in the world. And make no mistake, we will find this person.”

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene and boarded a northbound 7 train.
