NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — Riding the NYC Ferry now costs more.

A fare increase took effect Monday, raising the price of a one-way ticket to $5, up 50 cents from the previous fare.

The cost of a 10-trip pass also increased, rising by $1 to $30. Discounted one-way fares increased by 5 cents to $1.50.

The fare hike comes as the city grapples with higher operating and fuel costs. The New York City Economic Development Corporation, which oversees the ferry system, cited those rising expenses as the reason for the increase.

The changes took effect immediately for riders using the city’s ferry network.
