QUEEN CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) — A young boy has died after police say he was hit by his family’s car in a Queen Creek driveway last week.
Around 8 a.m. on Oct. 16, first responders were called to a home on Escalante Road, near Crismon and Ocotillo roads.
The family was getting ready to leave home when the boy was hit by the family’s SUV, according to Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice.
Police said neighbors rushed over to help before first responders arrived. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to a different hospital in critical condition.
Queen Creek police said Monday that the boy later died that same day. They did not identify him.
This incident is still under investigation, but Brice said last week that it was a tragic accident.
“The biggest thing we want to say is this is an absolutely tragic situation. An accident that occurred where it’s going to have a lot of impact on the family, obviously, and the community,” the chief said.
Chief Brice said the department is working with the officers and neighbors involved to ensure everyone receives necessary resources.
“Our hearts are with the family. I can’t tell you what this does to everyone involved,” he said.
