1. Large curbside trash container use could expand citywide
As part of a pilot program, larger residential properties in West Harlem have been required to place their trash in “Empire Bins” positioned on curbsides throughout the neighborhood.
City Councilmember Shaun Abreu is pushing to expand the program citywide. The City Council is expected to vote on the proposed legislation today.
Abreu joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss the plan and what it could mean for New Yorkers.
A former aide to two New York governors went on trial today on charges she sold her influence to the Chinese government and illegally profited from the state’s bulk purchase of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Linda Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, were arrested last year during a U.S. crackdown on alleged Chinese secret agents. They were charged again in June as part of the government’s efforts to root out pandemic fraud.
3. Former deputy mayor for Adams talks Mamdani transition
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced his first top City Hall appointments earlier this week, naming Dean Fuleihan first deputy mayor and Elle Bisgaard-Church chief of staff.
Meera Joshi, former deputy mayor for operations under Mayor Eric Adams, joined “News All Day” to discuss Mamdani’s picks.
4. JFK’s grandson Jack Schlossberg to run for U.S. House seat in New York
John F. Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg is running for the U.S. House next year, announcing Tuesday that he’s seeking a congressional seat in New York City that will be vacated by longtime Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler.
Schlossberg, 32, is a sardonic social media personality with a large following and storied political roots. In a video, he said the district covering a core chunk of Manhattan “should have a representative who can harness the creativity, energy and drive of this district and translate that into political power in Washington.”
5. Doctor talks diabetes prevention and management
November is Diabetes Awareness Month. The latest data from the city finds that more than 11% of adults in the five boroughs have diabetes.
Dr. David Lam, an endocrinologist at Mount Sinai, joined “News All Day” to talk about diabetes prevention and management.

New youth basketball training facility opens across from Barclays Center
A new multi-court training facility has opened on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, right across the street from the Barclays Center.
The courts are operated by Brooklyn Basketball, a youth program affiliated with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty. NY1’s Emma Barnett paid a visit.
