The Academy Award winner returns to the stage after nearly 40 years in Manfred Karge’s 1987 solo play, reprising her performance from the original U.K. production.

Oscar winner Tilda Swinton will make her NYC stage debut in the solo play Man to Man off Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre this spring, running for eight weeks only starting February 21, 2027. Opening night is February 28.

Man to Man is set in 1930s Germany, where a woman poses as her dead husband to survive the Nazi regime. Swinton first performed the play in its 1988 U.K. premiere, and she is currently performing it at London’s Royal Court Theatre through October 24. Man to Man will also appear in Scotland and Germany before coming to NYC.

The production uses Anthony Vivis’s translation of Manfred Karge’s play, newly revised and directed by Stephen Unwin. Man to Man also has design by Bunny Christie, lighting design by Ben Ormerod, sound design by Elena Peña, projection design by Matt Powell, and production stage management by Erin Gioia Albrecht.

Swinton is an Academy Award winner for Michael Clayton and a Golden Globe nominee for The Deep End. She is also best known for starring as the White Witch in the Chronicles of Narnia film series and the Ancient One in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for her appearances in multiple Wes Anderson films.
