STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A New Jersey attorney charged in a fatal wrong-way crash on Staten Island posted bail Friday after a scheduled court appearance.

Shannon Theodore, 36, of Somerset, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in connection with the Oct. 10 crash on Staten Island’s West Shore Expressway. She pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment earlier this week.

During her latest appearance on Friday, the court set bail at $500,000 bond, of which she was required to put up 10%. The case was adjourned to Dec. 15.

Series of crashes leaves one dead, several injured

Authorities said Theodore was traveling northbound in a southbound lane when her 2019 Range Rover Velar struck a 2025 Kia Seltos near Exit 8 at about 5:35 a.m.

Following the initial impact, a third motorist driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with the already damaged vehicles.

The driver of the Kia Seltos who died in the crash was identified as Duck Park, 66, of Todt Hill. Park, a home healthcare aide who immigrated from South Korea, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Park’s family said she was on her routine early morning commute to her house of worship in Tottenville at the time of the incident.

The third motorist, Nathaly Costa, 21, of Sayreville, was also arrested for driving while intoxicated. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is due back in court Dec. 15.

The surviving drivers and two passengers in the Jeep were hospitalized in stable condition at Richmond University Medical Center.

The incident marked the third fatal wrong-way crash on the same stretch of highway over the past 16 years. An investigation into the latest incident remains ongoing, including where Theodore entered the highway and questions surrounding the breathalyzer test and blood alcohol content.
