BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) is investing in transmission infrastructure to strengthen reliability across New York.
NYSEG officials said the company is prioritizing transmission upgrades through its transmission line deficiencies (TLD) program to support a strong, reliable grid across New York State.
The program aims to repair or replace infrastructure beyond its operating life and helps reduce outage risks for customers.
Work includes replacing transmission poles, crossarms and hardware and upgrading transmission structures.
“Transmission lines are the backbone of electric infrastructure,” said NYSEG President Marc Geaumont. “Any disruption to the transmission network could have a ripple effect for customers. Maintaining this network is one of our key priorities when it comes to energy reliability in New York.”
NYSEG said it has corrected 200 asset condition issues across 35 transmission lines and is planning to update more than 230 transmission lines through 2031.
In 2025, it tackled more than 500 asset condition issues across 62 transmission lines.
The company said it aims to address about 370 deficiencies by the end of the year.
By improving the transmission systems, NYSEG said lines will be stronger during periods of extreme weather, support growing electricity demand, prevent larger and more costly problems and support economic development in communities across the state.
