ALBANY, New York (WWNY) – Gov. Kathy Hochul says New York is investing a record amount to keep farms.
The state is handing out more than $48.5 million to 43 farms across New York.
The money comes from the Farmland Protection Program, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Officials made the announcement at Heer Farm in Onondaga County, a farm that has been running for more than a century.
The grants will protect more than 16,000 acres of farmland, keeping it in agriculture for good.
State leaders say more than $15 million is still available and will be awarded on a rolling basis.
