There’s no shortage of sparkle at tonight’s banquet honoring the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman. Amongst the royal ladies bedecked in glittering gems was Queen Camilla, who opted for a tiara with a sentimental touch.
Camilla wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, a diamond diadem that was given to King Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, for her wedding by her grandmother, Queen Mary. A fleur-de-lis design of silver and gold, the piece was originally purchased from Garrard in 1893, and was altereed during Elizabeth’s reign to incorporate a bandeau base.
Camilla has worn the tiara before, including in 2023 for the Buckingham Palace reception in honor of the Diplomatic Corps.
The queen paired the tiara with an aptly royal blue gown with ruffled sleeve cuffs and a coordinating two-strand necklace.
Camilla joined King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton earlier today for an official welcome celebration, including a procession through Windsor’s streets in horse-drawn carriages. For that event, Camilla stepped out all in red, donning a red Fiona Clare dress coat and a matching Phillip Treacy hat along with the Queen Mother’s Cartier Ruby and Diamond Floral Clips, a pair of ruby and diamond flower brooches that were originally commissioned by Charles’s grandmother. Last year, the pieces were part of a collection of royal-owned gems loaned to the Cartier exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London by King Charles.
Camilla previously joined Charles on his 2016 visit to Oman, when she was the Duchess of Cornwall.
The sultan of Oman is no stranger to the UK, owning several properties in London, and even having joined King Charles for tea at Windsor Castle while visiting the country on private business last year. However, this tour marks the first official state visit made by a sultan of Oman since 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II hosted the current sultan’s predecessor, Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
