WORCESTER, MA – The Manhattan Jaspers Women’s Golf program finished its 2026 fall campaign on a high note with a second-place overall finish, while junior Miren Ontanon won the individual title at the Crusader Invitational at Worcester Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

·      Opening its final event of the fall season were the Green and White, who had struggled to capture any momentum, before Ambre Boullot posted a ninth-hole birdie to close the front nine strong in the first round.

·      Then, it was Maddison Long who added a quartet of pars, with a sixth-hole birdie to round out an exceptional front nine for the Jaspers.

·      Throughout the first round, it was Miren Ontanon who sustained her momentum through the round, with just one bogey and eight pars in the first nine holes.

·      On the back nine, Ontanon continued by opening with four pars in the first five holes, before sinking her first birdie of the tournament on the 15th hole.

·      During the second round, Giana Zinke and Lara Dommach spearheaded an early team comeback for the Green and White with two early birdies.

·      Down the stretch of the second round, and continuing to cruise atop the leaderboard throughout, was Miren Ontanon, who continued to par her way through and ended the tournament with four consecutive pars and seven of the final eight to capture the first overall individual Jasper champion in program history.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS

Head Coach Keith Prokop: “Amazing to see Miren [Ontanon] end this semester with a win. She’s been playing great golf; she just hasn’t capitalized until this week. Amazing to see her and the team’s progression the entire semester.”

Junior Miren Ontanon: “I would like to thank everyone who helps me become a better person every day, especially my parents, who are always the first to guide me back whenever I lose my way. I’m very happy with the result, but I’m hungry for more, not only individually but also as a team. I truly believe we have so much more to give.”

“The course we played this week was incredible, and I felt very fortunate to compete on the first course where the Ryder Cup was played. However, its history and beauty didn’t make it any less challenging. The greens were definitely the toughest part for me. The course challenged me to stay patient, make smart decisions, and adapt my game throughout the round.”

“I’m very happy with this win, but I also see it as another opportunity to learn, improve, and continue growing both on and off the course. There is always something new to learn from every round, and I’m motivated to keep working hard, become a better player and person.”

“If you look at the semester in its entirety, we battled injury, illness, and relied on almost our entire roster, yet we improved across the board both individually and on the leaderboard every event. That is a testament to our ladies’ hard work, coachability, and ability (not only talent but to step up when they were called upon).”
