NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — A 46-year-old Rockland County man was shot and killed on the George Washington Bridge in what investigators believe may have been a road-rage attack, authorities said.

Surveillance video of the incident is being reviewed as police search for the shooter.

According to investigators, the victim was driving a Volkswagen Golf on a ramp leading to the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge when his vehicle nearly collided with another driver, sparking a dispute. As both vehicles continued toward New Jersey, an occupant of the other vehicle allegedly fired a shot, striking the victim.

Lucy Yang is in Fort Lee with the latest on the investigation.

The victim’s vehicle continued westbound before coming to rest against the median near the middle of the bridge. He was transported to Englewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities identified him as a Con Edison worker who was not on duty at the time of the shooting.

The other vehicle fled the scene, and police are continuing their search for the person responsible.

The shooting triggered an hourslong investigation that forced the closure of the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge. All lanes reopened shortly before 1 a.m.
