Global Kids hosted its annual 5K Run/Walk/Push and Family Day on Saturday, Oct. 17, gathering over 200 attendees, including students, families and community members at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Corona.

The event helped raise funds for programs aimed at assisting young people to build leadership skills, excel academically and broaden their global perspectives.

Participants were given the option to run a timed 5K or complete the course at their own pace. After the race, Global Kids hosted an awards ceremony where students from across the boroughs won top recognitions for their running times.

Funds raised support Global Kids’ programs serving more than 14,000 K-12 students across New York City and Washington, D.C.

“It was inspiring to see our community come together for the Global Kids 5K in support of our young people,” said Dominique Jones, executive director of Global Kids. “Events like this help advance our mission by creating opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, broaden their perspectives and build the confidence to shape their own futures. We’re grateful to everyone who participated and helped champion the next generation of leaders.”

Student participants shared their experiences, emphasizing sportsmanship and a sense of community as highlights of the event.

“I really loved the GK5K,” said Jeffrey Zhuo, a senior at John Adams High School. “The whole event was fun, but the best part was having my John Adams and GK family there cheering me on. It made the whole experience even more special!”

“I liked how everybody came together and just had fun,” added Keytel Flores, another student participant. “It didn’t even feel like a competition because everyone was cheering each other on and enjoying the moment.”
