Mayor Michelle Wu’s administration is exploring congestion pricing and planning a trip to New York City to study the fee.
“There’s not a specific plan on the table. It’s really just learning and understanding what the real before and after has been for New York. They’re a very high-profile example of finding ways to cut traffic, make air quality better,” Wu is quoted as saying.
Boston’s climate action plan proposes studying financial tools — such as parking fees, tolls, and congestion charges — to reduce driving.
In New York, a passenger car entering Manhattan at or below 60th Street is $9 during peak hours with an E-ZPass.
Big City schools
Mayor Wu is set to deliver remarks at the Council of Great City Schools Conference Thursday, welcoming more than 1,000 big-city school superintendents, board members, senior administrators, and educators from around the nation to Boston. They are gathering at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
This comes the same week city councilors and parents blasted Boston Public Schools for concealing thousands of sexual assault, misconduct, and bullying cases.
It also hits as MCAS results are not sitting well with many. The city’s public schools remained behind the state in every category, but Boston officials argued the results showed some “promising” notes. Specifically, city scores have jumped over 28 other districts.
