I set out to find the most outrageously delicious Italian comfort food in Queens, and I ended up at Rocco’s of Roc Beach. When I heard about their legendary bone-in Veal Chop Valdostano, I knew I had to experience it firsthand. This is not your average weekday dinner. It is a massive, decadent masterpiece that will completely ruin all other chops for you.

The preparation process here is unreal. They take a bone-in veal chop and pound it out super thin. Then comes a heavy pinch of salt and pepper followed by a generous drizzle of truffle oil. That truffle aroma hits you immediately. Next, they layer on salty prosciutto, rich bechamel sauce, and a huge spoonful of their signature marsala mushroom sauce. They top the entire thing with shredded mozzarella cheese and a heavy dusting of pecorino cheese. The result? Pure perfection.

They expertly roll the filled chop up around the bone to create a giant stuffed cylinder of pure goodness. It gets tossed around in flour and completely coated in a rich garlic herb egg mixture. Then it goes straight into a piping hot pan filled with sizzling oil. The sound when it hits that pan is music to my ears. They fry it to golden perfection, flip it over, and drain off the excess oil.

Then comes the real magic. They pour chicken stock straight into the pan, creating a massive burst of steam and flavor. They let it simmer down until the meat absorbs all those unbelievable juices. To make it even richer, they top the chop with another mountain of mozzarella and pecorino cheese. The whole pan slides directly into the high-heat broiler until that cheese is bubbly, golden, and melted to absolute perfection. Look at that melt.

While that cheese browns, they heat up another batch of that incredible marsala mushroom sauce in a separate pan, mixing in even more truffle oil. They plate the chop, pour every last drop of that rich truffle mushroom sauce right over the top, and finish it off with fresh chopped parsley. Drenched. Absolutely drenched in sauce.

Cutting into this monster is an experience all on its own. The moment your fork pulls back, you get an insane cheese pull that stretches for days. That combination of crispy egg batter, tender veal, salty prosciutto, and gooey melted cheese creates a flavor explosion in every bite. The earthy mushrooms and rich truffle oil cut right through the decadent cheese. I could not get enough.

Rocco’s of Roc Beach is serving up some of the most insanely flavorful dishes in New York City. If you love massive portions, melted cheese, and bold flavors, this spot needs to be at the top of your bucket list right now.
