STV announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development (MTA C&D) has selected the firm as the project management consultant for a multi-station program advancing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility across Midtown Manhattan. The work spans several major subway hubs, including 42nd Street–Bryant Park and 5th Avenue.

STV will manage the program from construction through commissioning while maintaining safe, continuous operations in complex, high‑ridership environments. Key elements include:

Four new ADA elevators, including one at the 5th Avenue Station adjacent to the New York Public Library and at 42nd Street–Bryant Park.
Enhanced circulation and rider access through ADA‑accessible routes from platform to street, including boarding areas, fare control, and reconfigured stairs and ramps at 42nd Street–Bryant Park and 5th Avenue, as well as ADA‑compliant restrooms at 42nd Street–Bryant Park.

“Improving accessibility in Midtown’s busiest stations helps more New Yorkers travel independently—especially riders who use wheelchairs, parents with strollers and anyone navigating the system while injured or on crutches,” said Timothy Hurley, PE, DBIA, principal in charge at STV. “These upgrades will make it easier to reach jobs, school, health care and everything Midtown has to offer, while keeping stations operating safely for the thousands of people who rely on them every day.”

STV will also assist with early risk and conflict identification, advanced scheduling and controls, coordination across design‑build and design‑bid‑build packages, and progressive commissioning. This integrated approach is intended to maintain schedule and budget control while minimizing impacts on riders, surrounding businesses and the public.

The work supports the MTA’s ongoing effort to accelerate accessibility delivery systemwide and modernize legacy station infrastructure in one of the nation’s most heavily used transit corridors, an effort that has resulted in more station accessibility projects completed in the last five years than in the previous decade.

STV brings extensive experience delivering large-scale station accessibility and modernization programs for major transit agencies across North America. Key projects include the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Plan for Accessible Transit Infrastructure, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit Windsor Extension, Boston Green Line LRT Extension, 37 elevators and 21 escalators at NYC Transit subway stations, Seattle Center Monorail Station Upgrades and Accessibility Improvements at New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway Stations.

STV’s nearly 1,000 local professionals across the Metro New York region have delivered transformative infrastructure projects spanning transportation, buildings, water and environmental programs for public and private clients. Recent landmark projects include the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, Delta Air Lines Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, Polo Grounds Towers Improvements, Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign, Sawtooth Bridges Replacement and Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A.
