One of the all-time greats in country music has passed away. John Anderson has died at the age of 71, leaving fans in Nashville and across the country mourning the loss of a legendary voice.

I remember seeing John Anderson numerous times here in Buffalo as an opening act for many of the country music tours that came through town. John had a soulful presence whenever he performed, and I’ll never forget seeing him before Blake Shelton in Buffalo and singing along to every single song he performed.

I would have to say that John Anderson’s music was some of my favorite to listen to whenever I was deep in the backwoods or spending time hunting and fishing. Hit after hit, his music blended perfectly with the outdoors.

John could go from a soulful song like “Wish I Could Have Been There” to a rocking tune like “I Fell in the Water.” His music had a sound and personality that made it instantly recognizable.

But if I had to pick my favorite John Anderson song, it would have to be “Bend It Until It Breaks.”

That song has one of the coolest introductions of all time. The way the fiddles kick in at the beginning, along with the energy they bring to the song, is absolutely amazing. It’s the kind of country music that makes you want to turn up the volume and sing along.
