The upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan were closed early Thursday following a fatal crash between a truck and a motorcycle, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 5:19 a.m. when the motorcyclist collided with a tractor-trailer on the upper eastbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway, a short stretch of Interstate 95 connecting the bridge with the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

Authorities said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.

Officials in Fort Lee asked motorists to avoid the bridge until at least noon due to the investigation.

The Palisades Parkway Police Department told motorists to expect delays for about six hours.

As of 8 a.m., one left lane of the upper-level eastbound portion of the expressway had reopened, officials said.

The crash was the second time in two days that traffic on the George Washington Bridge had been halted.

Tuesday night, upper-level traffic was closed for hours during an investigation after a man was found shot in the driver’s seat of his car following an apparent road rage incident.
