Thinking about making a trip to New York City or Las Vegas? Davidoff is giving cigar fans extra incentive to book their tickets with its new City Edition series of smokes. They’ll be out on store shelves next month, and the first two towns to get these cigars will be Las Vegas and New York. The new cigars should be available starting on November 2.
The Davidoff City Edition New York and City Edition Las Vegas cigars each measure 5 1/2 inches by 55 ring gauge and retail for $49 apiece, but they are distinctly different blends with unique packaging and separate identities.
“With the City Edition, we bring the exclusivity of Davidoff directly to our flagship stores,” says Javier González, senior vice president and head of global marketing and innovation at Oettinger Davidoff. “For the first time, we are launching a series that belongs entirely to the cities that inspire it. New York and Las Vegas each have their unique blend and box, which cannot be found anywhere else. They are perfect for travelers and collectors alike.”
If you’re heading to Vegas (perhaps for the Big Smoke Las Vegas Weekend, which begins on November 6), the City Edition Las Vegas will be available at the Davidoff of Geneva Since 1911 flagship store on South Las Vegas Blvd. The wrapper and binder on those cigars are both from Ecuador, while the Dominican filler has been aged in a wine cask. Davidoff rates the strength at a “three out of five.”
The City Edition New York is a touch more intense—“three-and-a-half out of five,” according to the company. That extra bit of extra strength comes from the Ecuadoran wrapper, which is notably darker than that of the Vegas version. An Ecuadoran binder holds together the filler blend of all-Dominican tobacco. These will be offered at three flagship stores in New York City: Madison Avenue (Manhattan), 6th Avenue (Manhattan) and Broadway (Brooklyn).
Both releases are made in the Dominican Republic at the Cigars Davidoff factory and come in boxes of 10. The outer lid of each box graphically depicts the respective cities.
