Manhattan High volleyball will host Class 6A sub-state Saturday, while three other area teams captured regional championships this week to advance to sub-state with a chance to reach the state tournament.

The Indians enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the Class 6A West bracket with a 26-9 record. Manhattan will host Wichita Heights, the No. 14 seed, at 1 p.m. Saturday. Washburn Rural and Wichita Southeast will meet in the other semifinal, with the winners advancing to the championship match.

After closing the regular season with a split against Salina South and Maize South, Manhattan secured home-court for sub-state. The Indians will look to use that advantage to earn another trip to the Class 6A state tournament.

Rock Creek and Wamego also will compete in Class 4A East sub-state Saturday. The Mustangs are the No. 6 seed at 22-13 and will face No. 11 Parsons at 1 p.m. at Bishop Miege. The winner will advance to play the winner of No. 3 Bishop Miege and No. 14 Baldwin for a sub-state championship.

Wamego enters as the No. 16 seed at 11-25 and will travel to top-seeded Paola (29-5) for a 1 p.m. match. The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 8 Louisburg and No. 9 Fort Scott for the sub-state title.

Three area teams earned regional championships earlier this week.

Riley County won its Class 3A regional title Monday on its home court, finishing 3-0 to improve to 32-8. The Falcons opened with a 25-15, 25-7 sweep of Haven before rallying past Marysville in three sets, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21.
