NEW YORK — A 17-year-old is under arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man at a New York City station over the weekend.
The teen, identified as Xavian Collins, is facing charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
A dispute over smoking marijuana on a subway train appears to have led to the fatal shooting, according to investigators.
The shooting happened Saturday afternoon at the 7th Avenue-53rd Street station, where Darryl Rodriguez was shot in the chest and killed.
Video surveillance shows the altercation. The suspect wore all red, including a black Moncler vest, and held a firearm pointed at Rodriguez.
Detectives believe Collins was smoking marijuana on the train when Rodriguez confronted him, sparking an argument that escalated into gunfire.

“Once again the NYPD has demonstrated why they are the finest detectives anywhere, and now it’s up to prosecutors and the courts to ensure maximum justice for the late Darrel Rodriguez, who was simply on his way home from work,” he said in a statement.
The killing marked the seventh homicide in the city’s subway system this year, compared with four at the same time last year.
