STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The average Staten Islander earned less early this year than they did late last year, with weekly wages in the borough falling more than $50.
New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the average weekly wages in the first quarter of 2025 for all 62 New York counties, with Staten Island ranking 20th overall at $1,327, outpacing 42 other counties.
However, the average weekly wage of $1,327 represents a roughly 4% decrease from the borough’s average weekly wage of $1,383 during the fourth quarter of 2024, when Staten Island ranked 12th among all counties.
Manhattan had, by far, the highest average weekly wages of any county at $4,514, which was more than double the next closest county, Westchester, where residents earned an average $1,996 each week.
Steuben, Albany and Suffolk counties rounded out the top five with average weekly wages of $1,772, $1,599 and $1,563, respectively.
Staten Island ranked fourth out of New York City’s five boroughs, with Manhattan ranking first at $4,514, Queens ranking second at $1,360, the Bronx ranking third at $1,349 and Brooklyn ranking fifth at $1,126.
The average weekly wages varied widely across the state, ranging from as low as $976 in Yates county to $4,514 in Manhattan, also known as New York county.
“Among all 62 New York counties, 14 reported average weekly wages of less than $1,100, 10 registered wages from $1,100 to $1,199, 16 had wages from $1,200 to $1,299, 12 had wages from $1,300 to $1,399, and 10 had average weekly wages of $1,400 or higher,” according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
