A popular smoke shop in Dutchess County, NY, has been shut down after New York State raid uncovered the store was selling illegal cannabis products that caused customers to get sick after smoking the illegal cannabis products sold at the store.

The New York State Office of Cannabis Management has made it clear that the illegal sale of cannabis products at stores in New York State will not be tolerated!

A smoke shop located in the village has been shut down after authorities investigated numerous complaints of the shop selling illegal cannabis, as well as a report of subjects becoming ill after smoking illicit cannabis purchased at the store.

According to the Red Hook Police Department (RHPD), on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, officers assisted investigators from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management Enforcement Team (OCM) with an inspection at Red Hook Exotics located at 7484 South Broadway in the Village of Red Hook, NY.

Following the inspection, RHPD announced that authorities discovered and seized numerous illegal cannabis products, including cannabis flower, edibles, and concentrate. Police said that some of the products seized included untested products from out of state, and that some of them had extremely high levels of THC, including one brand of edibles containing 5000mg of THC.

OCM officials issued the business a violation notice, and it was “sealed” according to RHDP.

Illegal Activity Won’t Be Tolerated in New York

Following the investigation, Daniel Haughney, Director of Enforcement and Investigations at the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, said, “

“OCM’s Enforcement Team is working across the state to make sure the law is followed and that only licensed businesses are allowed to sell cannabis products. This ensures that the public is buying safer, tested products that meet New York State standards. The inspection in Red Hook led to an order to seal an unlicensed location — a clear reminder that illegal activity will not be tolerated in New York.”
