Michael Cashman has been officially sworn in as New York state’s 115th District assemblyman. This comes just weeks after he held a press conference to announce his candidacy. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie made it official Thursday morning, swearing Cashman in at the Assembly Chamber. Cashman will represent New York’s 115th District.He said he wants to be a leader for the entire district.”It’s very humbling to receive the support of so many individuals,” said Cashman. “I know I didn’t win the votes of everyone, but I’m here to represent everyone.”He said he is already getting acclimated in Albany, and his training will continue Thursday. The training consists of learning everything from ethics to setting up his district office, which he hopes will be complete in the next two weeks, but he was able to take a look at his desk in the Assembly Chamber.Cashman said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of the former assemblyman, Billy Jones. Jones stepped down from his role over the summer to pursue a career closer to Plattsburgh.”The advice that I received from Billy and Janet , and that’s to make it your own,” said Cashman. “Public service is closest to the people in these local roles. And you have to be authentic and make sure that individuals have access to you.”Cashman will serve the 40 communities that the 115th district covers, including Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties. He said his top priorities are the same that they were during his campaign: affordability, public safety and protecting the North Country’s future.Closer to home in Plattsburgh, Cashman’s office is already getting organized. Deputy Supervisor Chuck Kostyk will be assuming Cashman’s former responsibilities until a new town supervisor is chosen.See related coverage:
