Avenger Short-Range Air Defense System Deployed By NORAD
The military has set up anti-aircraft guns at Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s private estate in Palm Beach. The units are on a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway, adjacent to the property and in full view of anyone who drives or walks past on Southern Boulevard. “This is supplemental, complemental to the security of the president with any low-flying platform,” said retired Army Lt. Colonel Octavio Perez, a defense intelligence expert told NBC. It’s called the Avenger Short-Range Air Defense System. The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, deployed the system at the request of the Secret Service. It provides another layer of security, in addition to the military personnel, fighter jets, and local police presence already in use whenever Trump visits Mar-a-Lago. Humvee-mounted Avenger batteries feature Stinger missiles and .50-caliber machine guns.

Engine And Parts Shortages Pushing Some Owners To Dismantle Young Aircraft
In May, an Airbus A320neo, one of the world’s most popular planes, that rolled off the Mobile, Alabama, factory line in July 2022, painted bright yellow for its next destination Spirit Airlines, has already been stripped for parts worth millions and crushed. The plane was built to fly for decades, but crushed as the steel teeth of an excavator tore through its fuselage at a facility on the outskirts of Phoenix in Goodyear, Arizona. More aircraft are getting dismantled years, if not decades, earlier than expected, industry executives told CNBC. It is the result of a shortage of parts, none more precious and expensive than aircraft engines, that has exasperated airlines and driven up costs for years. Even after the engines are removed, firms are looking for parts as varied as landing gear and antennae to sell.

The Full 88-Aircraft Order Remains Under Review
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) has received its first two Lockheed Martin CF-35A Lightning II fighters, formally introducing the type into the Canadian fleet while the government continues to review whether it will proceed with the full 88-aircraft acquisition. The two fighters were accepted on October 22 at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, the RCAF said. They will remain in the United States to support the initial training of Canadian pilots and maintainers rather than immediately moving to Canada. Canada plans to base its first eight CF-35As at Luke during the initial training phase. The first aircraft are expected to arrive in Canada in 2028, with initial operational capability planned for 2029-2030.

Aviation Now The University’s 5th Largest Major By Enrollment
Oklahoma State University is establishing two new academic schools, building on rapid enrollment growth and growing workforce demand in two of Oklahoma’s most critical industries. One of the new schools in OSU’s College of Education and Human Sciences will be the School of Aviation and Space. Aviation has a long and distinguished history at Oklahoma State University, dating back to the opening of the Civilian Pilot Training Program at then-Oklahoma A&M in 1935. In the last decade, enrollment across undergraduate degree options has increased substantially, doubling in aerospace security and professional pilot, and quadrupling in aviation management. More than 1,000 students apply annually to the bachelor’s degree in aerospace administration and operations, now the fifth-largest major by enrollment at OSU.
