Catherine LaBarbera, a longtime Staten Island nursing supervisor, died Sunday at Richmond University Medical Center, the same hospital where she spent four decades working. She was 89. After graduating nursing school in 1957, LaBarbera began her career at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, rising from staff nurse to nursing supervisor and later administrative director. She helped establish the hospital’s Care Management Department and continued working in healthcare after retiring in 1999, eventually concluding her career in 2021 at age 85. Her daughter, Dr. Marianne LaBarbera, remembered her as selfless, fun-loving and devoted to family. LaBarbera leaves behind three children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
