Police in Brooklyn are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a garbage truck driver Wednesday night.
Law enforcement sources say the incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the intersection of Cropsey Avenue and Bay Parkway in Bath Beach.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police learned that the victim, identified as 30-year-old Siobhan Lynch of Coney Island, was crossing the street from the southwest corner to the southeast corner of Bay Parkway when she was struck by an eastbound Sanitation Department garbage truck, operated by a 41-year-old man.
The impact of the collision threw Lynch several feet before she struck the pavement, suffering severe body trauma, police reported.
Officers from the 62nd Precinct responded to the scene. EMS rushed Lynch to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
The male truck driver remained on the scene after the collision; no charges have been filed against him, police noted.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family of the victim. DSNY is assisting NYPD with their ongoing investigation,” a Sanitation Department spokesperson said.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is conducting an ongoing inquiry into the tragedy.
