(WRGB) — A law requiring background checks to buy ammo in New York State will stay in place.

The Concealed Carry Improvement Act was enacted in July 2022.

Attorney General Letitia James called it a victory for her office, which has been fighting to uphold the law.

The New York State Firearms Association filed several lawsuits in 2023 attempting to block the law.

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York denied a preliminary injunction in May 2024, citing a lack of merit in the plaintiffs’ case.

The Second Circuit Court has upheld the lower court’s decision.

“Once again, my office has successfully defended New York’s background checks on ammunition sales despite repeated attempts to undermine this commonsense law,” said James in a statement. “Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in their community and my office will continue to defend our laws and protect public safety.”
