Police wounded a gun-toting criminal in the Bronx Monday following a wild daylight shootout, authorities say.

According to NYPD Assistant Chief Aneudy Castillo, cops from the 52 Precinct were called to Bainbridge Avenue and East 194 Street just before 3:30 p.m. after a man got into a verbal dispute with several individuals inside a deli following reports he had been harassing them. The 49-year-old then brandished a pistol, racked it back and pointed it at those in the store, sending them ducking for cover. He then left the deli and used the gun to bash the glass window.

“At this point, two uniformed officers in a marked NYPD vehicle arrive on scene, observe the subject’s actions, and immediately issue verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon,” Castillo said. The subject not only disregarded the order to drop the weapon, but instead pointed the firearms directly at the officers. At this point, there is an exchange of gunfire between the officers and the subject.”

Cops say the gunman ran northbound while wildly firing back at officers as pedestrians were going about their day. Sources say police were able to end his rampage by shooting him twice in the leg. He was whisked to Saint Barnabas Hospital and is expected to survive. Officers were not struck but were whisked to the hospital for evaluation.

A pistol was recovered at the scene.

The gunman has been identified as Victor Soto, who Castillo charges has eight prior arrests, including multiple assaults and multiple arrests for criminal possession of a firearm. Charges against Soto are pending.
