UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — Law enforcement agencies across New York issued 44,545 tickets during a statewide campaign targeting impaired drivers around Halloween.

According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the enforcement period, which ran from Oct. 25 through Oct. 31, resulted in 1,210 tickets for impaired driving alone.

Other violations included 1,726 for distracted driving, 395 for Move Over Law violations, 8,701 for speeding and 1,109 for seatbelt infractions.

The initiative included sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols.

Last year, 46,212 citations were issued, with 1,260 arrests for impaired driving and 9,029 speeding tickets.

Similar campaigns are held during other holidays and periods, including St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day and Thanksgiving.
