BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – An 11-year veteran of the FDNY will be laid to rest on Saturday after he died while battling a fire in Brooklyn last week.

Colleagues knew 42-year-old Patrick Brady as an “informal leader,” according to firefighter Scott Coyne.

“He was an organizer, he brightened up the room,” Coyne said. “When you look back over your life, you always want to be a figure like a Pat Brady.”

Brady, from Queens, comes from a long line of firefighters – his brothers, a cousin, and an uncle have all served or are currently working.

“This family is a firefighter family,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said earlier this week. “They have been dedicated to protecting the lives of New Yorkers, and we will all cherish Patrick’s memory.”

Brady was known as someone you could always count on, according to firefighter Lt. James Walker.

“Pat was the type of guy you really hoped was working when you were coming into work,” he said.

Jake Touhey, a firefighter who worked with Brady, told PIX11 News that his love for the firehouse came second only to his love for his wife, Kira.

City leaders joined firefighters last Sunday for a memorial outside Ladder 120 in Brownsville, where Brady had worked since 2022.

“We mourn the passing of Firefighter Patrick Brady, whose bravery this city is deeply indebted to. New York City is forever grateful for his service and sacrifice,” Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said.

“Firefighter Brady made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the people of this city, and his passing is a devastating reminder of the dangers our members face every single day in service to others,” the FDNY Uniformed Firefighters Association said in a statement.

Brady suffered from a heart attack while fighting the fire on Kings Highway last Sunday, according to the FDNY. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.

PIX11 News will livestream the funeral beginning around 11 a.m.
